I admit that “never have I ever” been to Christkindlmarket in Chicago. That changes November 30, 2019, and I can only hope all of you recognize what a fantastic day this will be for everyone! Plan now to go with your Plus 60 Club and Tri-State Travel as we experience the true German traditions of old. According to what I Googled, and all the videos I watched, I cannot believe this is something I have missed out on.

Beginning in 1996, this now 24-year old Christkindlmarket is a tradition that has grown every year since its inception. Over 81% of the people who now frequent this festival are repeaters, coming from 32 countries from around the world! That alone gives you an idea of what a great experience this will be, allowing people and families of all sizes to create unique holiday memories. This market was inspired by the 16th century Christkindlmarket in Nuremberg, Germany, one of the first holiday markets of its kind. It is well known for its red and white striped vendor booths. The market boasts high quality gifts of all kinds, authentic German food, drink, and mulled wine, called Gluhwein. The latter can be purchases in the annual holiday mug, a beautiful and much sought after collector’s item. Each year the mugs sport a unique shape and design; I viewed some showing Santa’s boots and snowmen. I was told that previous years’ mugs are available for purchase, in case you want to start or complete your collection.
