Club Members!

Share your knowledge & talents on our Plus 60 Board!

The Club’s activities are planned by your Board of 12-15 volunteer members and we would welcome the opportunity to consider your application to become an involved Board member. The Board meets monthly and organizes into committees to plan membership activities. Your lifestyle may include the arts, ball games, concerts, continuing education classes, pickleball, picnics, social events, day trips, multi-day travel tours, etc. We invite you to share your interests, organizational skills and talents (planning & managing events, budgeting, email correspondence, familiarity with Word and Excel, using Google documents, writing Plus 60 page articles, Facebook page administration) with us for the betterment of the Club and to make a positive difference in our served communities!
Our Board’s nomination committee looks forward to hearing from you in 2022!

Genesis Health System Senior Services Partnership

Happy New Year! I look forward to being together with you this year after a two-year absence due to the pandemic. Our original plan was to resume Healthy Habits Over Lunch in January. The Omicron COVID variant has changed those plans and we will be unable to meet in January; it is simply not safe to travel and gather in a large group right now. Safety is a core value of our work at Genesis, and while I miss seeing you all tremendously, it would be irresponsible for us to meet as a group at this time.
I want to take a moment and share with you some facts of the current surge: Emergency departments, convenient care sites and testing sites are overwhelmed with COVID testing and treatment. Intensive care units (ICUs) across our area remain at very high occupancy. Many elective surgeries are postponed, as ICU beds are not available for post-surgical care. While our area vaccination rate is over 70%, over 85% of our hospitalized COVID patients have not been vaccinated. In addition, all health care providers in the area and region are experiencing a loss of staff due to career changes and illness. COVID has definitely taken its toll. We are still in a health care crisis.
However, on a brighter note:
■ The omicron variant is less severe, and burning quickly through the community. This part will likely be over by the end of the month, with many more people carrying immunity after contracting the omicron variant.
■ This variant has led to an increase in community members receiving COVID boosters. This will also help. And finally,
■ We have oral treatment medications now approved by the FDA. Within a few weeks these will hopefully be available at your retail pharmacies.
In the meantime, here is what you can do:
■ Get vaccinated.
■ Get a booster.
■ Wear a mask in public.
■ Avoid large social gatherings at least through the month of January. Practice social distancing.
■ Take care of yourself, and one another. Distance does not mean isolation. Call your friends.
■ If you know a health care worker, tell them “thank you.”
You can find the latest information on COVID and our community response at https://www.genesishealth.com on the internet.
On behalf of all of my friends and colleagues at Genesis, it is an honor to serve this community. Thank you for your partnership and your patience. We will be together again.
Warm wishes for a safe winter!
