Volo Auto Museum Adventure

Polished chrome. Sparkling paint. Neon signs. Vintage cars. Hundreds of memories in the shape of an automobile. These are just some of the sights we will take in if you join your QC Plus 60 friends Wednesday, May 17 to tour the Volo Museum in Volo, Illinois. If you love old cars and enjoy a walk through the automotive treasures of the past, you won’t want to miss out on this day trip!

Volo Museum started as an 1800’s farmhouse in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. The primary business was a second-hand store. The owner had two sons, who grew up on the property. As they got older, they started tinkering with Model T’s, fixing them up and selling them. Their collection grew as fast as their reputation. Soon people started traveling to see their collection. Recognizing a business opportunity, the brothers started charging $1 admission and called it the Volo Auto Museum. Fast forward 60 years later and Volo Museum is now a world famous classic and modern collector car dealership selling over 1,200 cars a year with a museum hosting 45 exhibits and over 10,000 mechanical marvels that attracts over 250,000 people every year. The secondhand store is now an antique mall that has around 300 unique vendors and over seven miles of aisles!

A Tri-State Travel deluxe motorcoach will pick up passengers at two departure sites. Those leaving from Davenport will gather at the east parking lot of the Quad-City Times building, 500 East 3rd Street, at 7 a.m. for a 15-minute boarding. At 7:30 a.m. additional passengers will board at the parking lot furthest east of Stoney Creek Hotel in downtown Moline. Access the Moline parking lot by turning north towards the river on 18th Street from Moline’s River Drive and proceed thru the 2nd Avenue stop sign intersection before turning into the parking lot on your right. We depart Moline at 7:45 for our day’s adventure.

At approximately 11 a.m. we arrive at Lindy’s Landing Restaurant at the Marina on Bangs Lake in Wauconda, IL for lunch. Lunch will include a cheese and fruit tray, a choice of one of three entrees, unlimited coffee, tea or Coca-Cola products, an available cash bar and chocolate cookies to satisfy the sweet tooth. Entrée choices are: 1) Lindy Landing Chopped Salad, with chicken, bacon, romaine, tomato, red onion, bean & corn salsa, cheddar jack cheese and tortilla strips with ranch dressing, served with bread and butter; 2) Cali Wrap with turkey, bacon, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, cheddar jack cheese, and ranch in a tomato wrap, served with homemade potato chips; or 3) a Chicken Club Sandwich with grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion on a classic bun with chipotle aioli on the side, served with homemade potato chips. Those with dietary restrictions can be accommodated with an alternative option if restrictions are noted on your registration.

After our relaxing lunch, we board our bus for the short 10 minute drive to Volo Museum. Arrival is planned for 12:45 p.m. The afternoon is yours to wander the many displays and enjoy all the amazing items offered for your perusal at the Volo Museum. After taking in all the sites, we depart Volo at 5 p.m. for our return to the Quad Cities. For convenience, there are short rest stops planned for both the morning and evening bus drives. Approximate return time is 8:15 p.m. for Moline and 8:30 p.m. for Davenport.

This day tour includes the deluxe motorcoach accommodations, a plated lunch of your liking, and admission to the Volo Museum and Antique Mall. The cost is $140.
