Pickleball Demonstration

September 17, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Pickleball – what is that? Despite the name, pickleball has nothing to do with actual pickles. There are several theories, but one theory is that the sport is named after a cocker spaniel, Pickles, who enjoyed chasing the ball while his owners played the game.

Pickleball is a sport that combines many elements of badminton, tennis and ping-pong. It is played indoors and outdoors on a badminton-sized court with a modified tennis net. Players use a paddle and a plastic ball with holes. This sport can be played by all ages, but it has continued to grow in popularity among adults with 68% of pickleball players being above the age of 60. The Quad Cities has an active pickleball club whose members are willing to put on a demonstration for Quad-City Plus 60 members.

Come and find out more on Thursday morning, September 17th at 11:00 am at Northwest Park, 3040 N Division St, Davenport. We will social distance and wear masks. Please wear tennis shoes if you think you might want to try out this sport. The Quad Cities Pickleball club has paddles for you to borrow if you are interested. We will take the first 32 people and put them on one of the 8 courts. Bystanders will need to wear masks and stay 6’ apart. There is no need to pre-register, but you will be asked to sign-in at the park and then sign an activity waiver if you would like to play.
