Canyon Country Experience

September 30, 2019 - October 8, 2019

Fall will not get any better for you as we present an opportunity to travel in some of the most beautiful and scenic nature-inspired areas in the United States. Join Tri-State Travel and your Plus 60 Club as we travel by coach, and then home by plane, for nine fantastic days of sightseeing, learning, and just plain enjoyment of what our west-central states have to offer.

Eight nights of accommodations and fourteen meals are included, along with one-day coach airfare home. This trip is scheduled for September 30 – October 8, 2019, and will include the states of Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Nevada.

Our first overnight is in Lincoln, NE where we will have an included Welcome Dinner and Reception. Getting into Colorado the next day we will first visit “The Arch” where this country’s western migration began. To get us in the flavor of the West, we will then visit and tour a farm and ranch where operations will be explained.

The next day finds us traveling through the Rocky Mountains and into Utah and the Arches National Park. The park, of well over 76,000 acres, boasts over 2000 natural sandstone arches, the largest number existing in the world in one location. The geological features of this area include fault lines, petrified sand dunes, arches, bridges, cairns (balanced stacked rocks), spires and many others. It is so awe-inspiring to take it all in, realizing they ever-changing natural formations. There will opportunity for several photo stops along the way. That evening we will board a jet boat for a spectacular sunset cruise.

In some ways, Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park is the definitive West. It is the sacred heart of the Navajo Nation and the high desert climate of southeastern Utah. There will be towering rock formations which soar to as much as 1,000 feet above the valley floor. It is truly one of the wonders of the world. That begins our day; next is the famous Lake Powell. This beautiful man-made reservoir is on the Colorado River, located between Utah and Arizona. It is a top destination spot for over 2 million people per year. We’ll enjoy a narrated boat cruise on the lake and then dinner this evening is included.

You have not been anywhere until you have seen the Grand Canyon. This author cannot express the pristine beauty and the total serenity that overtakes you as we gaze from first the Vermillion Cliffs, and then from the North Rim at the Grand Canyon National Park. From there we go to Kanab, known as “Little Hollywood” for reasons quickly understood. Our next two nights will be in Springdale, UT, near the entrance to Zion National Park.
Many opportunities for shopping and exploring are available here.

The morning of Day 6 will be spent visiting Bryce Canyon National Park, the home to hoodoos, spire-shaped rock formations. Later we will travel to Zion National Park, the oldest park in Utah, and the most visited. We will see Kolob Canyons which are named after a place describrd in Mormon scripture as being near God’s throne. We will board a special tram tour and travel north to the Temple of Sinawava and the Great White Throne.

Days 7 and 8 are spent in Las Vegas where you will find many different options available to you. Anyone up for taking on a one-armed bandit? Our tour director will explain the many different activities and excursions you may be interested in. We will be visiting the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area which lies in the Mojave Desert, as well as one of the many ghost towns that surround the area. You will have the ability to make some choices. On Day 9 we catch our flight home, and back to the Quad-Cities.
