All aboard nostalgic railroad enthusiasts! Your Quad City Plus 60 Club is offering an exclusive charter motorcoach day trip from the Quad Cities on Saturday, June 25, to Boone, Iowa for a private vintage coach car ride on the Fraser Train operated by the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad.

Last year the Club arranged two sold-out weekday trips to Boone for Wolf Luncheon train excursions powered by a diesel locomotive on the railroad, which crosses the 156′ tall Bass Point Creek High Bridge, as well as the Des Moines River, on its journey through the scenic Des Moines River Valley. This summer the railroad’s operating steam locomotive, JS8419, is due back in Boone from a year-long hiatus of maintenance in 2021, and this year’s trip has been planned in anticipation of the steam locomotive pulling the Fraser Train on the June 25 excursion.

We will board our chartered deluxe motorcoach early Saturday morning at the Quad-City Times building parking lot in downtown Davenport and have a brief stretch break near Williamsburg with time to purchase a coffee or fast food breakfast items during our morning journey before arriving in Boone for a buffet lunch at the Saints Avenue Café and continuing through town to the railroad station.

You’ll have time, before boarding our reserved private vintage coach car for the early afternoon Fraser Train ride, to browse the on-site James H. Andrew Railroad Museum, a beautiful 9,000 sq. ft. facility housing more than 4,000 rare and unusual railroad artifacts, featuring research library, theater, and memorabilia from all eras of railroading in Iowa. With extensive collections of track equipment, toy trains, railroad china, passenger train timetables, lanterns and more. There is something to interest everyone.

The train ride’s duration is less than two hours. Seating is not assigned on the bench seat private coach, which is not climate controlled, but we’ve allowed ample space for passengers to select where they sit as they board since our coach will be occupied to only 60% of capacity. We will have a rest/dinner stop in Coralville while traveling back to Davenport.

The non-refundable cost of the trip is $124 per member, which includes motorcoach transportation, buffet lunch, admission to the railroad museum and the Fraser Train ride. Unfortunately, the historic coach car is not handicapped accessible.
