SCC Seminar: All Iowa reads “The Mothers”

June 18, 2020 @ 11:30 am - 2:00 pm

Scott Community College has scheduled a book discussion of the All Iowa Reads 2020 selection, The Mothers, for Thursday, June 18. This dazzling debut novel by Brit Bennett is a surprising story about young love, a big secret in a small community and the things that ultimately haunt us the most.

The Mothers book discussion Learn with Lunch will be at the Outing Club in Davenport from 11:30-2:00 and be led by Mary Bakeris-Gullion. The cost is $22.00 and the class number is 9886. Please call Scott Community College at 563-441-4001 to make your reservation soon before all of the seats are taken.

The story is set in a modern-day community in Southern California where a rebellious seventeen-year old beauty, Nadia Turner, is mourning the suicide of her mother. She is also coping with a failed romance, a secret and the ‘mothers’ in her church who haunt her throughout her life. Nadia learns that the decisions of her younger years and the people in her life impact her life forever. What if the people in her life had made different choices?

Financial support for this Learn with Lunch has been provided by a community grant that the Plus 55 board gave Scott Community College last December. Your membership dues and fees at work!
