Learn with Lunch starring Clarissa C. Cook

November 14, 2019

I am quite sure there is not a Quad-Citizen who has not heard of one of our community’s most well known and respected philanthropists, Clarissa C. Cook. Born in 1811, and passing in 1879, her legacy is still quite evident today. But who was she, and what did she do? Find out by joining your Plus 60 Club and Scott Community College when the life and legacy of Clarissa C. Cook is portrayed by Norma Wren. Not only was a Home for the Friendless (for indigent women over age 60) built under her name in west Davenport around 1884, the name Clarissa C. Cook still appears on several other facilities in our area. Probably the most well-known, the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, was the first freestanding home in Eastern Iowa to offer Hospice Services to people in the final stages of their lives.

Join us at the Outing Club on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 11:30 to learn all about Clarissa Cook, and her life and spirit of compassion and generosity.

Following the insightful presentation by Norma Wren, the homes’ Hospice Medical Director, Dr. Ann O’Donnell, will give us an overview as to how the residents are cared for, and how the program works and is funded. This definitely is one of those topics we will all benefit from learning about.

The cost is $22.00, and includes a great lunch. Call Scott community College at (563) 441-4100 and make your reservation today!
