Smoky Mountains Getaway Tour
October 24, 2022 - October 29, 2022
This fall tour is SOLD OUT.
This past spring on March 20, your Plus 60 Club’s Board was excited to announce a 6 days / 5 nights scenic fall motorcoach tour, October 24 – 29, featuring autumn’s splendor on display in Smoky Mountains National Park, an afternoon at nearby Dollywood, and a journey through the Blue Ridge Mountains to visit to the 8,000-acre Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.
Our first overnight will be in Indianapolis after a mid-afternoon visit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and a lap around the famed 2.5-mile oval track. You will have an opportunity to “Kiss the Bricks,” a tradition followed by race winners since 1996, as well as enjoy a self-guided museum tour showcasing the rich history of motor racing at the Speedway.
The next day our journey continues through Kentucky to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee where we settle into our comfortable accommodations for the next three nights before attending an entertaining dinner and show.
A local tour guide will join us on our third day for a scenic drive through Smoky Mountains National Park, where we will be on the lookout for the golden hues of sugar maples and crimson leaves of red maples among hickories and black gum trees. The park has one of the most diverse collections of flora and fauna in the United States. In the afternoon we explore Dollywood, enjoy an evening festive dinner at the Applewood Farmhouse and take our seats for entertainment at the Comedy Barn.
We make our way after breakfast the next morning to the Blue Ridge Mountains in anticipation of a visit to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville built by George Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895. The 250-room residence privately-owned by George’s descendants is America’s Largest Home featuring 178,926 square feet of floor space, stunning interiors, an immense pipe organ, and lush landscaping. Later in the afternoon, there is time to explore The Island at Pigeon Forge.
On the fifth day we travel to Louisville, KY for a guided tour of the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory before checking into our hotel and enjoying a Kick Back Reception. The timing of our visit to Louisville coincides with the city’s spectacular Halloween event. Our motorcoach will take us to Iroquois Park for a leisurely walk to view 5,000 artistically carved pumpkins!
On our last day we are homeward bound after breakfast to the Quad Cities with fond collective memories of our getaway trip!
The tour price per person is $1,755 for double occupancy, $1,609 for triple occupancy, $1,535 for quad occupancy, or $2,199 for single occupancy accommodations.
