Lake Michigan Lunch Cruise and Driehaus Museum

July 11, 2024 @ 7:45 am - 8:30 pm

Join us on Thursday, July 11, for the Quad-City Plus 60 Club’s chartered deluxe motorcoach day trip from Moline up to Chicago’s Navy Pier for our two-hour signature luncheon cruise on Lake Michigan aboard the Spirit of Navy Pier vessel.
We will disembark our motorcoach ground transportation for a level two-block walk along Navy Pier in anticipation of setting sail at 12:30pm for a one-of-a-kind cruise that is as scenic as it is delicious! Admire sweeping views of Chicago’s beautiful lakefront and iconic landmarks, such as Adler Planetarium, distinctive skyscrapers, and Navy Pier.

While on the cruise, we will enjoy a chef-prepared buffet lunch at reserved tables on a climate-controlled deck with large windows. The buffet features main selections of birria style chicken, oven roasted salmon, braised pork, and baked orecchiette pasta. Salad choices include Caesar, Summer Berry & Farro, and sun-dried tomato Pasta salad. Roasted summer vegetables, roasted tri-color potatoes with fresh rosemary, and Mexican elote-style corn complement the main selections. If you’ve left room for dessert, be sure to visit the Signature Dessert Station featuring individual assorted desserts and seasonal fruit. Service staff are available if you should need some assistance bringing your buffet selections back to your table.

In addition to the relaxed buffet lunch, the cruise features live DJ music entertainment, a fully stocked cash bar, dancing, and games on the open-air decks and indoor spaces. You’ll have time to view the scenic lakefront from open-air spaces and while in the enclosed deck areas.

When we return to shore, our motorcoach will transfer us a few blocks west for a guided tour of the Richard H. Driehaus Museum, which is housed within the historic Samuel M. Nickerson House, the 1883 residence of a wealthy Chicago banker located just steps away from Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. The Museum showcases art, architecture, stained glass, and design from the late 19th and early 20th century in a meticulously restored Gilded Age home.

The Museum also presents exhibitions for viewing, and you’ll have the opportunity to see this summer’s exhibition titled “Chicago Collects: Jewelry in Perspective,” which includes Field Museum loans from the 1893 World’s Fair; a rare piece of silver made by Paul Revere, Jr.; a handwrought silver punch bowl belonging to the Cliff Dweller’s Club; jewelry renderings by Art Nouveau master Rene ́Lalique; a number of jewels and objects made by Chicago’s own Kalo Shop as well as other Chicago artists.
