Boone & Scenic Valley Wolf Lunch Train Outing

September 15, 2021

Sorry! With Club member registrations received through Friday, July 2, this day trip has sold out. Messages to confirmed registrants have been distributed, and a “Wait List” has been established for unprocessed “held” reservation requests in postmarked order in case any confirmed registrants unexpectedly request a cancellation from the Club or the Club determines if another fall date or 2022 date might be possible for chartering the Wolf train for a second day trip. An update should be forthcoming later this summer. Those placed on the “Wait List” have also been notified.

Be a part of the Golden Age of railroad travel from yesteryear when you join Quad-City Plus 60 members for a special one-day charter train excursion on the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad (BSVRR) on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. You’ll enjoy lunch on the rails as you travel in climate-controlled comfort aboard the historic “City of San Francisco” or “City of Los Angeles” cars. The Wolf train crosses the 156’ tall Bass Point Creek High Bridge, the highest single-track interurban railroad bridge in the United States, as well as the Des Moines River, on its journey through the scenic Des Moines River Valley. After passing through the old coal mining town of Fraser, the lunch train climbs its way back out of the river valley on an impressive grade. You will make your way across some of Iowa’s rich farmland, eventually making your way to the end of the line at the unincorporated town of Wolf before the train returns to Boone.

The lunch menu consists of a choice of smoked pulled pork sandwich; BBQ grilled chicken, bacon & cheddar sandwich; prime sliced French dip sandwich; or Mac & Cheese. Sandwich side dishes include hickory house baked beans and cheesy potatoes. Mac & cheese sides include garlic bread sticks and Catalina vegetables. Dessert is chef’s choice of the day; usually cookies or bars.

You’ll have time to browse the on-site James H. Andrew Railroad Museum, a beautiful 9,000 sq. ft. facility housing more than 4,000 rare and unusual railroad artifacts with extensive collections of track equipment, toy trains, dining car china, passenger train timetables, lanterns and more.

Advance registration is required and can be submitted by Clicking HERE to view and print the registration form, which must be completed, mailed and postmarked by Wednesday, August 11th with check payment due for registrations to the Quad-City Plus 60 Club. The cost of the trip is only $115 per person which includes motorcoach transportation, Wolf train ride with on-board lunch, and admission to the railroad museum. Unfortunately, due to the historic nature of the cars, they are not handicapped accessible. Registrants will receive an email or phone call confirming received registrations. If you have questions, please send an email to qctimesplus60@gmail.com or call 563-370-4566 and leave a message.
