Boone Fraser Train

We will board our chartered deluxe motorcoach Saturday morning, July 9, around 7:15 AM at the Quad-City Times building parking lot in downtown Davenport and have a brief stretch break during our morning journey before arriving in Boone for a buffet lunch at the Saints Avenue Café and continuing through town to the railroad station.
Before boarding our private vintage coach car for the early afternoon Fraser Train ride, you’ll have time to browse the on-site James H. Andrew Railroad Museum, a beautiful 9,000 sq. ft. facility housing more than 4,000 rare and unusual railroad artifacts, featuring research library, theater, and memorabilia from all eras of railroading in Iowa. With extensive collections of track equipment, toy trains, dining car china, passenger train timetables, lanterns and more, there is something to interest everyone.

The Boone & Scenic Valley railroad route crosses the 156′ tall Bass Point Creek High Bridge, as well as the Des Moines River, on its roundtrip journey of less than two hours through the scenic Des Moines River Valley. Seating is not assigned on the Club’s bench seat private railroad coach, which is not climate controlled and not handicapped accessible, but there is ample space for passengers to select where they sit when boarding since the vintage coach will be occupied to only 70% of capacity.

The railroad’s operating steam locomotive, JS8419, is due back in Boone from a year-long hiatus of maintenance in 2021, and this summer’s trip has been planned in anticipation of the steam locomotive pulling the Fraser Train on the July 9 excursion. However, the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad does reserve the right to substitute diesel or other motive power and/or equipment without prior notice.

We will have a rest/dinner stop in Coralville while traveling back to Davenport.
