Beer & Cheese Tour

Cheers! Do you love to try out new craft beers, a cool root beer or a refreshing glass of wine? Join Tri-State Travel and your Plus 60 Club for a great day Wednesday, June 24, for a guided tour through the state-of-the-art production facility of Potosi Brewing Company, lunch in the Founder’s Room, and a visit to the National Brewery Museum & Library. The museum showcases an eclectic collection of beer bottles and cans, glasses, trays, coasters, advertising materials and various other collectibles.

Originally founded in 1852 along the Great River Road and just a stone’s throw from the Mississippi River, the Potosi Brewing Company became the fifth largest brewery in Wisconsin and distributed coast to coast. The brewery survived prohibition but closed in 1972. Following a $7.5 million restoration and tapping into craft beer popularity, the Potosi Brewery Foundation, a non-profit organization and sole owner of the brewery, reopened in 2008 on its original site. Also famous for its delicious root beer, PBC supports numerous historical, educational and charitable causes in the Potosi community. The facility is home to the National Brewery Museum, a brewpub, restaurant, beer garden, gift shop, and Great River Road Interpretive Center.

If you cover the brewery and meander across the street, you can also visit the Whispering Bluffs Winery. Take in a sample in their tasting room. Want some cheese for that? We’ll stop at the Shullsburg Cheese Store in Shullsburg, Wisconsin to stock up on your favorite cheeses before we return home.
